AÑASHUAYCO
CULEBRILLAS
Duration: Approximately 04 hours
8:00 am - We will pick you up from your hotel in the city of Arequipa to go to the quarries, where the sillar is originated.
9:00 am - The first point where we’ll make a stop will be in the Quarry of Añashuayco, this quarry is still in operation, due to the time and craftsmanship of the workers is that this quarry has become a huge canyon with walls that have a height of more than 30 meters. At this point we’ll tell you the history of sillar, the elaboration and the use that has been given since always. In this quarry we can also see the Mega-carving on the walls of the canyon, made by the own builders, in which we can take good photos. We’ll also be able to see how the sillar is elaborated, since the alarifes currently work in the quarry.
10:00 am – After that we’ll go to the Quebrada de Culebrillas, this is a stone quarry that isn’t in operation, in this quarry we’ll walk for approximately 20 minutes inside the small canyon that has been formed by the passage of water. At the end of the walk we can see petroglyphs, which are figures representing llamas, suns, snakes, etc. made by the ancient settlers of this area, which are on the walls of the stream and can be seen clearly.
Before returning to the city we’ll observe the Apachetas that are considered by the locals as a habit that causes a mystical sensation.
11:30 am – We’ll start the return to the city of Arequipa.
